Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:- Arrive Guwahati/ Nameri (215 Kms/ 6 hrs)

Morning arrive at Guwahati. Meet assistance upon arrival and transfer drive to Nameri. Enroute visit bricks factory near missa camp. Continue on to Nameri. On arrival check in eco camp. Evening walk around. Overnight stay at Eco camp.

Day 2:- Nameri/ Dirang: (160 Kms 6-7 hrs)

Morning after early breakfast drive to Bhalukpong- the Assam-Arunachal border town. Check in and drive uphill’s towards the mountain to Arunachal Pradesh. Drive pass Nichiphu, Tenga cantonment area and town and Rupa town drive further to visit Chillipam monastery of Gelugpa sect. Later drive back and continue to Dirang. Visit Dirang village and Dirang Dzong. If time permits can visit one more Monpa village. The whole area is majorly inhabitant by Monpa tribes and follows Buddhism of Mahayana sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight stay at Hotel Pemaling.

Day 3:- Dirang/ Tawang  (144 Kms/ 7-8 hrs)

Morning after breakfast drive towards one of the highest motorable pass in the world-“The Sela pass “at 13,700 feet asl. Take a little walk and drive down hills to Jaswant Ghar “a 1962 indo-china conflict war memorial”. Here the Indian army serves free tea to every visitors and reminds it of the supreme sacrifice made by the soldiers. Have a quick lunch at Jung and continue on to Tawang.

“Tawang is the birth place of the 6th Dalai lama-the only Dalai lama born out of Tibet. But foremost Tawang is more famous for 400+ years Tawang monastery built by Merak lama Lodre gyatso is the 2nd largest monastery after Potala palace in Tibet. Tawang monastery host bout 400+ monks in the complex where there is a school of Tibetan studies besides regular education too. The annual monastic festival of Tawang monastery called ‘the Torgya festival’ celebrated as per the Tibetan lunar calendar is the major festival where people from all over the area and neighboring Bhutan comes to attend the festival. Losar festival as another major festival of Tawang and west Kameng district which is a New Year celebration celebrated just 30 days after the celebration of Torgya festival; there are nunneries around. 

Tawang being one of the major battle field during the indo-china conflict of 1962 has huge military presence here, so is the war memorial is built in the memory of all the brave soul who made the supreme sacrifice”. Situated at an altitude of 10,000 feet makes it the coldest district head quarter of Arunachal Pradesh.

Day 4:- Tawang Sightseeing

Day to explore: Early morning go to Tawang monastery to attend the Morning Prayer with the little monks. Later visit the museum and school within the premises. Back to hotel for breakfast and drive to visit Ani Gompa (nunnery), urgeyling monastery (monastery of 6th Dalai Lama), thinly monastery of Nyingmapa sect. Lunch on the way as convenient, visit government craft centre & emporium if interested or can go to visit a Monpa village. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 5:- Tawang/ Bomdila (188 Kms/8-9 Hrs)

Options are as follows:

Morning after a quick breakfast drive out of Tawang all the way back to Bomdila. On arrival visit Rabgya ling monastery or upper Gompa. Overnight stay at guest house.

“Bomdila is the district head quarter of west Kameng district and home of Monpa, Sherdukpen, Khowa (Bugun), Hrusso (aka) and Sajolang (Miji) tribes spread all over the district. The major festival celebrated here is Losa, Torgya by the Moastery beside man other festivals.

Day 6:- Bomdila/ Itanagar: (305 Kms/ 8-9 hrs)

Options are as follows:

Early breakfast and drive back to the plains of Assam and continue on to Itanagar. Drive pass some of the largest tea gardens of the country. Stop on the way to visit weekly market if any. On arrival check on hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

“Itanagar s the state capital of Arunchal Pradesh, majorly inhabitant by the Nyishi tribe as being the capital people from all over arunachal and rest of India also resides here. The major festival celebrated by the Nyishi is Nyokum Yullo festival celebrated every year on 26th February’.

Day 7:- Itanagar/ Ziro (150 Kms/ 5-6 hrs)

Options are as follows:

Morning after early breakfast drive out of hotel ( as the traffic here is horrible during office hours) and visit Theravada Buddhist monastery of Hinayana sect of Khampti and Singpho tribe. Visit the local market in Naharlagun which is of interest. Continue on the road to Ziro. Enroute visit Nyishi village of Chullym. On arrival at Ziro check in hotel overnight hotel.

“Ziro- the land of the beautiful Apatani tribe. The valley has been listed tentatively as UNESCO world heritage site as Apatani cultural landscape for its natural beauty and fertile land. Apatani’s are famously widely for its unique way of dual cultivation of paddy and fish in the same field. More famous are the women here for their face tattoo and nose plugs which are unique to Apatani’s people only. The custom for tattoo and nose plugs is considered as social evil and has been abolished. Hence just few of them are living with it. The younger generation does not do any of it. The major festival of Apatanii is dree festival a agricultural festival celebrated on 5th July every year, besides Myoko festival celebrated in the month of march by group of villages divided in 3 different groups. Each group celebrated the festival in a gap of 2 years. Morung festivals celebrated by individuals in February”.

Day 8:- Ziro Sightseeing

Morning after breakfast visit ethnic Apatani village of Hong, Hari, Hija. Afternoon visit Bulla village. Late afternoon visit the local market. Overnight Stay at hotel.

Day 9:- Ziro/ Balipara (268 Kms/ 9 hrs)

Options are as follows:

Morning drive back to those plains to Assam drive through Itanagar. Arrive at Balipara and check in wild Mahseer heritage tea bungalow resort. Late afternoon walk around the tea garden. Overnight hotel.

Day 10:- Balipara/Guwahati Airport

Important Notes

  1. All hotels in Arunachal Pradesh are non-star category.
  2. Guests with adventurous mind should travel in Arunachal Pradesh.
  3. Room heaters may not work in Arunachal Pradesh due to voltage fluctuations caused low level of water in power plants. However most of the hotels have back up power.
  4. In this region there are no relevance between the distance and time travelling as it depends upon the conditions of roads in the Himalayan Mountains and congestion of traffic. 
  5. Credit cards / traveler’s cheque are not freely accepted.
  6. Every effort will be made to maintain the itinerary, in view of local strikes, landslide etc., which are beyond our control all
